Wednesday, 27 August 2008 10:27

The line dividing pro Canon cameras and amateur cameras just got a whole lot fuzzier today. With the announcement of the Canon's new 50d comes a lot of excitement in the pro-sumer world of digital photography. It's due to be released Oct 2008. Is it a pro camera at an amateur price (msrp $1399)? Absolutely! The Canon 40d was a pro-quality camera, tagged with an consumer price. Take a look at the official Canon specs.

  • 15.1 megapixels, no that is not a typo!
  • Digic 4 processor, 14 bit image conversion
  • 3.0 inch LCD
  • 6.3 max shots per second
  • Compact flash memory cards
  • 1.6 sensor crop factor
  • 9 AF points
  • Approx. 5.7 x 4.2 x 2.9 in./145.5 x 107.8 x 73.5mm

Looks like Canon is loading this camera with the latest and greatest. Other than the small sensor size, this looks and smells like an idea pro camera. We'll see how it performs when we get our hands on one. Canon, if you're reading this, please send us a test unit!
